Job Description
We are seeking dedicated Substitute Teachers to provide high school-level instruction to adult students (ages 18 and over) in the absence of full-time teachers. This role involves delivering both in-person and remote instruction from learning centers across various counties in California, including Nevada, Riverside, Monterey, Kern, Los Angeles (Antelope Valley), Merced, Ventura, and Butte. Ideal candidates will have experience working with diverse populations and be skilled in using both synchronous and asynchronous teaching methods, with a focus on language acquisition strategies.
Bell Schedule
Monday - Thursday: 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM (Class), 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM (Prep), 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM (Class)
Friday: 8:30 AM - 1:15 PM (Class), 1:15 PM - 2:15 PM (Prep)
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver engaging multi-subject lessons for a diverse group of adult learners.
Utilize the Canvas learning management system to implement online courses.
Monitor and assess student performance through both in-person and online activities.
Grade assignments, projects, tests, and provide constructive feedback.
Maintain accurate student records and submit reports in a timely manner.
Use the Aeries system to manage grades and maintain consistent grading criteria.
Collaborate with school counselors to support students in exploring career opportunities and further education.
Maintain a positive, respectful classroom environment, setting clear standards for behavior.
Participate in initiatives designed to foster an innovative and engaging learning experience.
Conduct culturally relevant lessons that meet the needs of students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of classroom management strategies and a passion for fostering positive student behavior.
Proficiency in using data to inform instruction and support student growth.
Excellent organizational skills, including time management and record-keeping.
Experience with technology and software tools like Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and online teaching platforms.
Ability to address and support a wide range of academic and social-emotional needs.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate in a team setting.
Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional ethical standards.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's Degree is required.
Must hold a valid 30-Day Substitute Permit or a single/multiple subject teaching credential.
Previous experience working with rural or agricultural communities is a plus, though not required.
Clearance for tuberculosis (TB) testing and a background check with the Department of Justice (DOJ) is required.
Must complete training for a Food Handler's Certificate within 30 days of hire and a Child Care Providers Mandated Reporter certificate within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Skills:
Bilingual in Spanish is preferred, but not required.
Physical & Travel Requirements:
Must be able to lift and move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally.
Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
Some travel within California may be required.
Work Environment:
Primarily works in a classroom environment, but may occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather or electrical risks.
