Job Description

Full/Part Time Status:

Full Time

Position Description:

The Department of Cinematic Arts at the University of Iowa announces an open-rank search for two tenure-track faculty in Film & Video Production to begin in the 2025-26 academic year. This is a time of expansion for Film & Video Production at the University of Iowa, and we seek to hire colleagues who will help guide its future development and secure its success within the University of Iowa’s thriving arts scene. Appointees will be expected to maintain a vigorous program of creative work with national and/or international visibility appropriate to rank; to teach successful courses in film, video and/or media production at all levels; to maintain an active profile in the profession; and to contribute fully to the shared service needs of the department or college. Hires at the rank of Associate or Full Professor should expect to share in departmental leadership roles as needed.

Building on a long and pioneering tradition of film education at the University of Iowa, Cinematic Arts is a comprehensive film department, bringing together artistic training in screenwriting and production with humanities-based inquiry in film and media studies, all positioned within the university’s renowned culture of arts and creative writing. We offer a range of degrees, including a BA in Cinema, a BA in Screenwriting Arts, an MFA in Film & Video Production, and MA and PhD degrees in Film Studies. Our department has grown steadily for the past decade, now standing at nearly 450 majors and over 100 minors. As we expand our production faculty, we seek to consolidate our position as a leadings arts department through collaborations with the other arts (Theatre, Dance, Studio Art, Music, Writers’ Workshop), and to build on existing strengths in Screenwriting and Film Studies (including new media).

Applications should be submitted online at http://jobs.uiowa.edu/(requisition #75316) along with the required attachments.
